Each week, we take an opportunity to share the inspirational words of one of our partners in the form of a devotional.  This week’s devotional was written by Joe Serna. The Word:
“For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:18 (NASB)

The Story:
Before I became a follower of Christ, I had a lot of doubt about God. I remember arguing with my mother about her beliefs because I was so resistant toward God’s power and love. The thoughts of giving my life over to someone I didn’t believe existed and hanging out with people I saw as hypocrites were unbearable to me. After chasing my own desires and watching my life fall apart, I realized something was wrong. Coming to the end of the road, I had one question, “Who is this Jesus?” I immediately sought find out the truth about what He did that made so many love Him so much and why I needed Him in my life. After I spent some personal time with God in prayer and reading the Bible, I came to realize the power and newness of life available in having a relationship with Jesus.

The Reflection:
Take time to think about the power and love made available to us through Jesus’ death on the cross. What steps are we taking to grow in our personal relationships with the Lord? Are we making intentional efforts to share our knowledge about Jesus with those who do not have a relationship with Him?

The Application:
Each day, let’s spend unhurried time with Jesus; thanking Him for His love and mercy, and pouring our hearts out to Him.

The Prayer:
Lord, thank You for pursuing us even when we rejected having a relationship with You. Please guide us in learning of Your will for each of us. Renew our passion everyday and give us a thirst for You. Amen.
