Each week, we present a devotional that was written by one of our partners at One Community Church. This week’s inspirational words was written Jessie Adala.
The Word:
And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. Hebrews 11:6 (NASB)
And Jesus said unto him, “’If You can?’ All things are possible to him who believes.” Mark 9:23-25(NASB)
The Story:
While we were on the mission trip, I met a woman who epitomized the unbeatable spirit of the people of New Orleans. The woman and her spouse lost their home six years ago to Hurricane Katrina. Currently, they reside in a small house in the lower 9th ward. They are still in the process of rebuilding their new home, relying on faith in the Lord and the kindness of others who offer their service. There’s still plenty of work to be done, but the woman’s spirit and faith in what Jesus can do is strong. Daily, she shares her faith in the Lord with people in the community. She constantly speaks of how she will use her new home to bless others. It was amazing to see how much faith this woman had despite her current situation.
The Reflection:
The Bible speaks of having faith the size of a mustard seed gives the ability to move mountains. Are we maintaining faith while awaiting God’s promise? Are we reminding ourselves that while we are moving toward God’s promise, it may look different than how we envisioned it?
The Application:
Let us maintain our faith in whatever we are believing God for today. We should hold on to faith whether we have been waiting for 6 days, 6 weeks, 6 months or even 6 years. Have faith that God will provide.
The Prayer:
Dear Lord, forgive us for demanding Your blessings on our own timetables. Teach us, Father, to have faith and patience while awaiting your promises. Amen.
