Each week, One Community Church presents a devotional that was written by one of our partners. This week’s inspirational words are from Kurtran Wright. The name of his devotional is “Bridge Theology.”
“Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NASB)
The cold of the concrete slowly percolated through my numb legs and dirty hands while I had a long conversation with one of the greatest human beings I have ever met. He is a homeless man living under a bridge in downtown New Orleans. While we openly and passionately testified to God’s goodness and grace, my physical discomfort subsided and my admiration and bond with this man grew stronger. He was clearly a disciple of Christ. Amidst what I perceived as a dire situation, the man exclaimed, “God has never failed me yet!” That memory still brings water to my eyes. The fact that a man who had nothing but the clothes on his back could make such a declaration still stirs something within me. I am reminded to recognize my blessings, irrespective of my current circumstances.
As we go through life, let us continue to worship God, despite what a situation may seem like. Do we recognize that all things are part of God’s plan and there is a lesson in all things – even when a situation seems undesirable?
Daily, we casually enjoy many luxuries without thanking God. This week, make it a point to praise God constantly for all He has allowed us to experience; the positive and the negative.
Dear Father, open up our eyes so that we recognize Your goodness in every situation. Open up our hearts so that we learn to love you no matter what. Amen.
