Every week, we present a devotional that was written by one of our partners!  This week’s inspirational words was written by Victoria Bobo. The title of her devotional is “Called To Kindness.”The Word:
“So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience;” Colossians 3:12 (NASB)

The Story:
A few months ago, my school hosted an assembly to remember the victim of a deadly high school shooting. As we honored this young woman’s life, the presenters shared an essay she wrote in which she challenged her classmates to show compassion to one another. She felt that an act of kindness would inspire others to do the same. The compassion she showed, and the love she gave to others inspired me as well as the students I teach to examine and adjust how we treat others. As children of God, let us strive to constantly show gentleness to others through our words and actions.

The Reflection:
As you think about this scripture and this young woman’s legacy, consider if you are truly spreading kindness and showing compassion to others. At One, we have Compassion Week. This is a great opportunity to be an example of God’s love. However, we shouldn’t just show compassion during this week. God wants us to be gentle, patient, and loving every day.

The Application:
I’ve learned that true compassion and genuine love should be spread daily, and can be done through simple tasks such as saying hello to a stranger or helping a neighbor carry their groceries. Let us be deliberate and consistent in showing kindness to others.

The Prayer:
Thank you God for the kindness and mercy that you constantly give to us. Help us remember that we are called to be examples of Your love by showing compassion to others. Amen.
