Each we, we present the inspirational words of one of our partners in the form of a devotional. This week’s devotional is from Brandi Harlin and is titled, “Counterfeit Trust.”The Word: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5 (NASB)
The Story: I attended a corporate training class focused on increasing trust among employees. When the host presented the various types of trusting behaviors, he explained that we often offer fake trust. Although we may act as if we have complete confidence in someone, there is often an underlying fear that we will inevitably be let down. After my father’s death, I lost my trust in God. Although I was still going to church and praying, the anger, depression, and guilt I felt caused me to doubt the power of the Lord. After much prayer and meditating on God’s word, I made the choice to put all of my reservations aside, and rely fully on Jesus.
The Application: Are you extending counterfeit trust to the Lord by relying on your own strength to handle difficulties in your life? Identify areas in your life where you struggle with fully trusting God. This week, pray for God’s strength to help you depend only on Him when doubts arise. Make the choice to put all of your confidence in the Lord.
The Reflection: We all face difficulties every day that challenge our complete confidence in God. By praying, reading God’s Word, and working to live out what we find in the Bible, we can overcome any trust issues.
The Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us to remember that you live in us. You are in control of everything. We know that our lives are safe in your hands. Today, we choose to trust in you with all our hearts, minds, and souls.
