What happened? We had to remove the devo you were expecting and replace it. Please enjoy this week’s Devotional Throwback! Here is an oldie, but goodie, from Dawn Stephens titled “Desire.”The Word: “Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander, like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.” – 1 Peter 2:1-3 (NASB)

The Story: Recently, I began a new workout routine that has been very hard. At the beginning of it, I took a fitness test and repeated the test a few weeks later in the program. When I took it again, I longed for only one thing, progress. I needed to know that I could do at least a little better than I did the first time. I didn’t just want to see growth, but needed to see growth to stay motivated. The Reflection: My desire for growth in fitness often does not translate into a desire for spiritual growth. Peter creates a picture using a newborn baby’s desire for milk. Unlike toddlers, newborns are interested in only milk, which is the main thing they long for. This milk has what they need to grow. I should desire God’s Word and the spiritual growth it produces like the newborn desires milk. But that rarely happens.

The Application: This week make a list of your desires, what you long for. Compare how desperately you want these to your desire for God’s Word.

The Prayer: Father, we know that there may be many things we desire including growth in some areas. Please help us this week long for your Word more and the spiritual growth it brings.
