Each week, One Community Church presents a devotional that was written by one of its partners. This week’s inspirational words were written by Iesha Odeneal. The Word:
Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? Matthew 6:26 (NASB)
I awoke early one morning feeling anxious, worried, and with a sad spirit. I prayed to the Lord and asked for some reassurance that my needs would be met and my spirit would be quieted. As I drove out of my apartment complex, I knew in my spirit He heard my prayers. I then saw several birds on the ground with their heads facing upward waiting to be fed. I immediately began to cry at the sight of this. The birds seemed carefree because they knew their needs would be met if they got in a position to be fed. It was a simple, but powerful moment. The Lord reminded me that if I need to be fed, my position should be on my knees praying to God. Like the birds, I do not need to worry about precisely when or how I will be fed if I have placed myself in a position to be fed. I rejoice in the knowledge that I have a Father who already knows my needs and is more than able to bless me if my mind and heart are in position to receive His blessings.
Are we spending time in prayer so that we can grow in Christ? Is our first reaction to worry or pray when we are in need? Do we trust that God is able to meet our needs?
Take a moment to think about when and how we pray — even if you are not worried about something today we need to be deliberate in establishing our prayer time with the Lord. Spend time in prayer regularly so that our heart and mind are in a position to receive His blessings.
Dear Lord, thank you for allowing us to lay our worries at Your feet. We trust You to bless us with the necessary provisions. Help us to continuously seek You in all that we do. Amen.
