Each week, we present a devotional that was written by one of our partners. This week’s inspirational words were written by Edgar DeBoue, Jr.
The Word
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and turn away from evil.” Proverbs 3:5-7 (NASB)
The Story
Throughout my adult life, I have known that I cannot do anything without God. Although I am intellectually armed with that knowledge, I don’t always apply it to my life and allow God to make a way for me. Sometimes, instead of committing to earnest prayer for guidance, I try to resolve issues on my own and chart my own direction. In those instances, the end results do not glorify God and I am painfully aware that my heart was not responding the way God intended. Each time I repeat this cycle, I am reminded that I need to totally trust God for who He is and allow Him to direct the path He wants me to be on.
The Reflection
What does it mean to wholeheartedly trust God? Trusting God means we have to rely on Him irrespective of the situation we are facing. Are we allowing God to lead our lives, thoughts and ways?
The Application
This week, let’s remember to trust that the Sovereign God is always there for us. Let’s each focus on one area of our lives where we lack confidence in the Lord, and commit to entrusting that issue to God for strength and resolution.
The Prayer
Father God, I thank You for teaching me that I should trust you completely with the life you have granted me. Provide me with the focus to live as You have taught me because Your ways are so much better than mine. Amen!
