Each week, we present some words of reflection written by one of our partners in the form of a devotional. This week’s devotional was written by Julian Thrower. The Word:
“Commit your works to the LORD and your plans will be established.” Proverbs 16:3 (NASB)

The Story:
The process of becoming a disciple or follower of Christ can be challenging at times. This is especially true when the desires we have for our lives don’t seem to work out as planned. However, there comes a time when we must begin to understand that Jesus, the One who has called us to be his disciples, gets the privilege of setting the boundaries of discipleship. Often times our focus can become blurred during seasons of trials, hardship and stillness because we quickly forget that becoming more like Christ is a process. We are required to lose the lives that we have apart from Christ, so that we may truly live in Him. By focusing our attention on God’s purposes for our lives and dedicating ourselves to Him, we have the awesome guarantee that God will establish our plans.

The Reflection:
What does it mean to be a disciple or follower of Christ? What is the lifestyle of a Christ follower like in real life? Are we wholeheartedly focused on pursuing the Lord’s will in every situation?

The Application:
Sometimes as Christians, we are stretched to our breaking points and tempted to throw in the towel because the process of following Christ appears to be too difficult. When we spend time with the Lord in prayer and reading the Bible, this allows our minds and hearts to be continually focused on God and His will for us.

The Prayer:
Lord, we know that following You requires our commitment and complete trust in You. Help us to embrace Your process and find total joy in the plans that You have for us. Amen.
