Each week present a devotional that is written by one of our partners at ONE. This week’s devotional is provided by Martha Thorpe and it is entitled, “Give Thanks.”The Word:
“Always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father;” Ephesians 5:20 (NASB)
The Story:
The above scripture seemed so simple but I have found that the life application is much more challenging. I easily give thanks to God in my prayers and during church. However, I realized there was a larger portion of the day when I was feeling disgruntled, often thinking I deserved more or better from God.
And then I read Philippians 4:11-12 where Paul states that he had to LEARN to be content in any circumstance. He learned the secret of being content in God’s arms when filled and when empty.
The Reflection:
Do I give thanks daily to God for all things?
Do I trust in God when I am Full and when I am Empty?
How can I be more intentional in my daily life to thank God for his many gifts?
The Application:
This week start a list of things you are thankful for each day. Challenge yourself to come up with 100 or more things. In being intentional with God and really seeking to SEE and thank him for the many blessings in our life, we step into true faith which allows us to experience the joy of his boundless love. Be intentional. Give thanks.
The Prayer:
Jesus, I want to thank you for loving me when my eyes are closed. Open my eyes to see, my heart to feel and my ears to hear. Let me be thankful EVERY day for the love, mercy and grace you pour into my life.
