At One Community Church, each week we share words of reflection written by one of our partners in the form of a devotional. This week’s devotional was written by Nina Wall. The Word:
“But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired.” 1 Corinthians 12:18 (NASB)
The Story:
My family and I have moved twice in the past six years, which means a new neighborhood, jobs, and a church home. What I’ve noticed is that when we seek a church home, I tend to look for certain things in a church. For example, what the church offers me and my family; how our lives can be enhanced spiritually; how God will connect us relationally. Basically, I seek what best suits me. God has recently reminded me what I thought I knew and wholeheartedly lived. Everything I do is about Him and for His glory. We often come with our own agendas and God gives us grace to grow in the area of replacing our preferences with His will for our lives. We have to remember that our lives, money, relationships, schools, job and churches are all about glorifying our Lord and advancing His purposes. I have been reminded that my life is not about advancing the kingdom of me, but advancing God’s kingdom.
The Reflection:
Are we completely open to those unexpected and unwanted changes God allows us to experience? What are our goals founded on- seeking God’s will or our own? How often are we spending time seeking the Lord’s desires for us?
The Application:
God should be the focus of all we do. Each day, let us intentionally seek to honor the Lord with our lives by willingly following wherever He leads.
The Prayer:
Lord, please help us to increase our faith and submit our wills to Yours. Help us remember that we should always seek to glorify You and pursue Your purposes no matter what. Amen.
