Each week we like to share a devotional that is written by one of our partners at ONE. This week’s devotional is from Jason White and he calls it, “In His Hands.”The Word: “In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia—this fulfilled the Message of God preached by Jeremiah—God prodded Cyrus king of Persia to make an official announcement throughout his kingdom. He wrote it out as follows: From Cyrus king of Persia, a Proclamation: God, the God of the heavens, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth. He has also assigned me to build him a Temple of worship in Jerusalem, Judah. Who among you belongs to his people? God be with you! Go to Jerusalem which is in Judah and build The Temple of God, the God of Israel, Jerusalem’s God. Those who stay behind, wherever they happen to live, will support them with silver, gold, tools, and pack animals, along with Freewill-Offerings for The Temple of God in Jerusalem.” – Ezra 1:1-4 (The Message)
The Story: Until recently, I never understood the meaning of God’s sovereignty. I grew up in a church that didn’t do a lot of biblical teaching, so I never understood why God took the actions He did, especially in the Old Testament. This was exacerbated in college by my classmates’ questioning of God’s actions. But I realized that it’s okay to not understand his actions as long as I remember He always has my best interest in mind. Job 12:7 says that even the fish in the ocean know that “God is sovereign and He holds all things in His hand.” If He controls everything from the fish in the sea to renowned kings like Cyrus, He will surely take care of me.
The Reflection: Do you fully entrust your life to God and let Him do to it as He sees fit?
The Application: Any situations that you encounter, remember that God controls all things. Focus on following God’s plans for your life and trust that His plan is what is best for you.
The Prayer: Thank you Lord for Your full control. Help me to understand that in Your hands, whether good or bad, I am always where I need to be.
