Each week, we present a devotional that was written by one of our partners.  This week’s inspirational words are from Elsy Riley.  The title of her devotional is “Joy In God’s Salvation.”The Word:
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and sustain me with a willing spirit. Psalm 51:12 (NASB)

The Story:
I have learned that only God can bring lasting joy and healing to the downhearted. Reading this scripture makes me so thankful for Jesus’ death on the cross. Only by this sacrifice am I able to access all the blessings God has in store for me. When I feel weak, I take heart knowing that God’s love can make me feel complete. He is my source of hope and strength. No matter my situation, I should not be discouraged because Jesus loves me so deeply that he gave His life for me.

The Reflection:

What does Jesus’ sacrifice mean to you? Perhaps it means feeling joy instead of defeat or emptiness. It may mean a sense of peace in times of trouble. Are you communing with God daily through prayer and reading the Bible so that he can bring joy to those difficult situations in your life?

The Application:
When sadness attempts to overtake you, think how about Jesus’ death on the cross saved you from ultimate destruction.  Delight in knowing that God is walking with you and watching over you during all seasons of your life.

The Prayer:
God, help us to always remember and appreciate Jesus’ death on the cross.  We pray that the memory of this sacrifice will restore joy to our spirits when we are faced with life’s challenges. Amen.
