Each week, we present a devotional inspired by one of our partners! This week’s devotional was written by Jennifer Moore. The title of her devotional is “Laborers Needed.”The Word:
Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.” – Matthew 9:36-38 (NASB)
I had the opportunity to go on One’s first mission trip over Labor Day weekend. I did not feel comfortable talking to others about my faith, before I joined the Mission team. However, the moment I heard the announcement about the trip, I felt stirred to find out more. The weeks leading up to the trip were spent in preparation. I did outreach, kept journals, fasted, and prayed. This trip was such a life transforming experience! I directly saw, with my own eyes, many people without a relationship with Christ. Those without a relationship with Christ wander aimlessly through life, just like sheep without a shepherd. I don’t know much about sheep, but what I do know is that their existence is chaotic without a shepherd to guide them. In the midst of this disorder in the community that the mission team served, I saw God working in many different ways by pairing the mission team with people who could lead us in the right direction. I also saw His work in the selection of the projects for us to complete. We were laborers in His harvest right in New Orleans. I came back from the trip with a heart burdened for the lost of my community. Now I’m ready to be a laborer and work the harvest by telling others about Christ Jesus.
When was the last time we felt so burdened for the lost or unsaved that we were moved to action? Are we praying for the salvation of our neighbors, co-workers, and relatives? What keeps us from sharing our faith?
Make a difference. It only takes reaching one life. We all can participate in outreach or serve in the community in a small or large way. There is no cookie cutter approach nor is it necessary to stand on a corner, go on a mission trip, or participate in a big project. When we willingly and wholeheartedly show Christ’s love, God handles the rest.
Lord, we pray that we can show Your love for all and lead souls to You. Let our hearts be burdened for the lost of this world. Give us courage to obey You and answer Your call to share our knowledge of You with others. Amen.
