Each week, we present a devotional that was written by one of our partners. This week’s inspirational words are from Kyndra Barrett. The title of her devotional is, “Not Just Words on a Page.”The Word:
“Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes and you will be careful to observe My ordinances. You will live in the land that I gave to your forefathers; so you will be My people and I will be your God.” Ezekiel 36:26-28 (NASB)
In my efforts to grow spiritually, I have made a concrete decision to change my life so that it glorifies God. When I read the Bible, I recognize that the words have a meaning for my life, and are there so that I can align my life with God’s will. I acknowledge that all scripture is clearly related to my life, and understand that it is meant to bring about personal growth. This new understanding is unnerving because I do not know exactly where this may lead me, nor do I fully comprehend my total purpose. However, I trust that God has a plan for me, and heeding to His words will open my heart and mind to follow Him freely.
When reading the Bible, what is our purpose? Are we looking to learn more of His Word, so that our lives can change? What steps are we taking to live the lifestyle illustrated through the Bible?
Read a passage in the Bible, then reflect about how that passage applies to daily living. Remember, that every word in the scripture is given to lead us in living in a way that is pleasing to the Lord.
Lord, we pray for spirit-filled hearts that are determined to live according to Your Word. Lead us to align our lives with Your will for us according to the Bible. Amen.
