Each week we like to share a devotional that is written by one of our partners at ONE. This week’s devotional is written by Natalie Irving and it is entitled, “Peace From Prayer.”The Word:
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” Philippians 4:6 (NASB)
The Story:
Earlier this year, I received a devastating phone call informing me that my mother had suffered a mild stroke. I had no idea about what to do! Although I was shaken, I was not panicked. Philippians 4:6 came to my mind, and I began to pray.
In that moment I was reminded that I could not take this on myself. I needed to make my requests known to God and let Him handle it. Since that time, she has made a wonderful recovery. Through the favor of the Lord and intense therapy, she continues to grow stronger and is regaining her independence.
The Reflection:
What situations do you need to turn over completely to God? Take comfort in knowing that God hears your prayer. He is able handle every overwhelming issue in your life.
The Application:
According to Paul in Philippians, we are to pray for what we need. Starting this week, I encourage you to fully rely on Christ and let go of the anxiety that often times keeps us captive. Once you make your requests known to the Lord, step back and take comfort in the faith you have in Him.
The Prayer:
Father, thank You for the truth of Your word and for allowing us to communicate with You through prayer. We are thankful that we don’t have to worry or be anxious. We simply make our requests known to You and You will provide the peace we need.
