God is generous in his grace even though he is thorough in his discipline. God develops His people through discipline.
I. God allows calamity (vs1:17-2:2)
In his discipline, God brings us to a place of complete surrender where we can return to our vow and obey His command.
II. Rebellion always leads to pain (vs 2:3-6)
Pain allows us to learn to walk away from our infractions.
III. When we run away from God we always simultaneously run to something else (2:8-9)
The thing we run to, apart from God in our times of crisis, then becomes an idol in our lives.
IV. God is always generous in his grace (vs 2:10-3:1)
God takes us back to the place of disobedience and gives us a second chance to walk according to HIs word and surrender.
