At One Community Church, each week we present a devotional written by one of our partners. This week’s inspirational words were written by Stephanie Wilkens. Enjoy! The Word:
“Give ear to my words, O LORD, Consider my groaning. Heed the sound of my cry for help, my King and my God, For to You I pray. In the morning, O LORD, You will hear my voice; in the morning I will order my prayer to You and eagerly watch.” Psalms 5:1-3 (NASB)
The Story:
I have not always had a great track record for being disciplined in praying and studying the Bible daily. As I became more involved in ministry, I began to feel God tugging at my heart. He wanted me to devote my life more fully to Him, and to know Him personally. The Lord showed me that the past is the past, and I can choose to be more committed to Him every day in the future. That morning I started by asking God to reveal Himself to me through the words I read in the Bible. I prayed that He would be blessed through my growth in Him. Then I read this passage. It declares that God is our King, and He does hear me when I pray. I was blown away at God’s faithfulness to love me and hear me always.
The Reflection:
Do we continually pursue God and seek to know Him through prayer and studying His Word? What is stopping us from fully devoting our hearts to Him? Whatever is hindering us from connecting to and knowing God, we must recognize it and then declare that God is greater.
The Application:
Today is the day to seek the Lord. He is waiting for us to come to Him. Commit this week to reading God’s Word and praying each morning before you start your day with the knowledge that the Lord hears you.
The Prayer:
Father, we declare that you are a righteous, loving and Holy God. Strengthen us to seek You daily through prayer and studying Your Word. Amen.
