Each week, we present the inspirational words of one of our partners in the form of a devotional. This week’s devotional is from Makaia Gaston and is called “Step Outside of Your Box.”The Word
For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “BUT THE RIGHTEOUS man SHALL LIVE BY FAITH.” Romans 1:17 (NASB)
In 2010, my husband and I moved to Dallas. Our former community was experiencing high crime and unemployment rates, as well as frequent foreclosures. I had been through three layoffs and we were working in dead end jobs to make ends meet. We knew that we needed a change, but didn’t have a clear vision of how it should look. On faith, we quit our jobs, packed a U-Haul truck and drove to Dallas. The only preparation we had in Dallas prior to arrival was that we secured an apartment without ever seeing it. People back home were amazed and said we were courageous. We believed God would provide all our needs until we found jobs. We were so pleased when we arrived at our new apartment. It was the home God wanted us to have. In two short months, my husband and I were both working! We are so glad we stepped outside of our comfort zones and opened ourselves to bigger blessings than we could have imagined at the time.
Are we limiting our blessings by not pursuing things outside of our comfort zones? What hinders us from achieving greater things in the name of Jesus? Is it fear of the unknown?
This week pray about something that may seem bigger than your current circumstances whether it’s relocating, starting a business, or simply doing something that you have never done before. Know that God is with you, and let Him guide you to things outside of your self-imposed limitations.
Dear Lord, please free us of any fear or restraints that stand between us and our ability to fully engage in Your glory. Help us understand that You are with us always whether we are within or outside of our comfort zones. Amen.
