This is a devotional written by Anida Smith. It is entitled, “Standing Still.”
“We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed: perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed.” II Corinthians 4:8-9 (NASB)The Story
There are times when I feel incredibly overwhelmed by life’s hardships and disappointments. Whether it’s the diagnosis of a frightening disease or the loss of a loved one, it can be very easy to give in to feelings of fear and helplessness. Even in the darkest moments, I realize that it is only by the grace of my savior that I am able to endure. My cavalry of one is ever present, will restore what is broken, and will help me to stand.
What is the most difficult challenge in your life right now? Even through this situation, how have you seen God’s strength? No matter how dismal the challenge, know that God is faithful.
Set aside some time each day to thank God for the challenges in your life. Write down one way God helped you endure each challenge. Continue to serve him wholeheartedly knowing that His love alone will allow you to persevere.
Father God, thank you for your compassion and mercy. There are times when life’s difficulties may seem intolerable. Lord, we are thankful for these afflictions because it is by them that you are glorified. And, we learn that there is no problem you cannot sustain us through.
