Each week we present a devotional that was written by one of our partners. This week’s devotional is by Candice Eugene and is called “Training Camp.”The Word: “Train up a child in a way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6 (NASB)
The Story: As I reminisce about my childhood, I recognize the truth and potency of this scripture. My family was at our church from sunrise to sunset. During that time, I received a solid foundation in God’s Word. Once I landed my first job, I decided making money was more important than spending time with the Lord. I associated with people who influenced me negatively. This resulted in unhealthy situations. Nevertheless, all of the time spent in the fellowship of godly people during my childhood was ingrained in my spirit. Now I make the choice to have a relationship with Jesus because of the concrete base my parents gave me.
The Application: This week, thank your parents for helping you become the person you are today. Seek God’s assistance in training the children in your life to love and serve Him.
The Reflection: What steps are you taking to lead the children in your life towards Jesus? Keep in mind that training involves not only direct teaching, but observation and imitation. How does your life reflect the godly principles you project to the children you influence?
The Prayer: Lord, we ask for your help in ensuring the children in our lives are exposed to your Word. We pray that we will teach the truth of your gospel so they will not depart from it. Amen!
