Each week, we present the inspirational words of one of our partners in the form of a devotional. This week’s devotional was written by Freddie Hall. The Word:
“You shall remember all the way which the Lord your God has led you in the wilderness these forty years, that he might humble you, testing you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not.” Deuteronomy 8:2 (NASB)

The Story:
I am constantly striving for humility. One opportunity presented itself five years ago when I was riding my jet ski out on a lake. I stopped to take a drink of water and noticed I was sinking. To be in the middle of a lake and quite far from land was humbling enough. To make matters worse, it was probably a half hour before sundown. Instead of panicking, I found myself calling on God to help me. I was able to realize in that moment that I could depend only on God to rescue me from that situation. I was incapable of saving myself. A few minutes later, a boater came along and graciously towed me and my jet ski to safety. Even though I was riding high, God presented me with a most remarkable lesson. My heart needs to be in a place of humility to trust the Lord in all situations because I recognize I am powerless without Him.

The Reflection:
Are we constantly striving for humility? How often do we find ourselves trying to be self-sufficient? What is keeping us humbling ourselves, and trusting God in all circumstances?

The Application:
This week, seek out opportunities to demonstrate humility no matter what may happen. If faced with adversity, let us humble ourselves and intentionally release our concerns to God because we trust in Him alone.

The Prayer:
God, we pray that we will always have humble hearts. When we attempt to handle life on our own, help us to turn to You so that we may embrace humility. Amen.
