Each week, we share words of reflection of one of our partners in the form of a devotional. This week’s devotional was written by Emeka Anyanwu.
The Word:
“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.”
1 Peter 5: 6-7 (NASB)

The Story:
In order to move to Dallas, I took a leap of faith after law school. I took a one-year temporary law clerk position at an institution where all of the attorney positions required five or more years of experience. After a year, I still had not secured a permanent attorney position in Dallas. My choices were either to patiently and prayerfully wait in Dallas or be discouraged and move back to Austin. I chose the former, and as the Bible encourages, tried not to become weary. At the end of the year, the institution I was law clerking at created an entry-level attorney position, allowing me to stay on permanently. God has an amazing way of providing unexpected blessings to those who remain faithful in their prayers and encouraged despite current circumstances.

The Reflection:

What are we allowing to discourage us? Do we believe God wants only the best for us? Are we patiently and prayerfully waiting to allow God to reveal Himself to us?

The Application:
This week, let’s reflect on all the trying circumstances God has been with us through. Let’s use those examples to strengthen our faith in His ability to bring us out of whatever is currently weighing on us. God has great things in store for us!

The Prayer:

Lord, help us not become discouraged by our current circumstances, but be encouraged by Your unfailing love for us. We are grateful for your many blessings. Amen.
