Each week, we present some words of reflection written by one of our partners in the form of a devotional. This week’s devotional was written by Iris Witherspoon.

The Word:
“In the day of my trouble I shall call upon You, for You will answer me.” Psalm 86:7 (NASB)

The Story:
My walk with Jesus started a long time ago when I left the shelter of my parents care and started a family of my own. I did not know how hard it would be; working and taking care of a family. My burdens began to get heavier and heavier. I could no longer deal with everything on my own. I knew there had to be a better way to live. One day, I decided to talk to my mother about some of the things I was going through. Her advice to me was to go to Jesus sincerely in prayer and tell Him all my concerns. She also gave me a Bible and a specific passage to read. After, I remembered getting down on my knees and crying like a baby. I told Jesus everything that was troubling me. I prayed this way for many days and nights. Even when I didn’t see any change in my situation, I still continued to pray and praised God for His goodness.

The Reflection:
When difficult situations arise in our lives, where do we turn for comfort? Even when our circumstances do not improve, do we continually seek the Lord with a grateful heart?

The Application:
This week, as we encounter troubling situations, let’s immediately turn to the Lord with grateful and hope-filled prayers; knowing His goodness endures despite the situation.

The Prayer:
Dear Jesus, help us keep our minds stayed on You in good times as well as bad times. Give us what to say when we come to You in prayer. Amen!
