Behind The Scenes: When God Seems Quiet

Written by Nikki L · Prosper Campus

Scripture

For if you keep silent at this time, liberation and rescue will arise for the Jews from another place, and you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this?

Esther 4:14 NASB

There is something unusual about Esther. God’s name never appears in the book. There is no prophet explaining what He is doing, and no dramatic miracle announcing His presence. Yet when you step back and look at the whole story, His fingerprints seem to be everywhere. Esther unexpectedly becomes queen. Mordecai uncovers a plot against the king, but his faithfulness is seemingly forgotten.

Esther risks her life by approaching the king, then waits before making her request. And while she waits, the king has a sleepless night. That ordinary sleepless night changes everything. The king discovers Mordecai’s forgotten act of loyalty, and the story begins to turn. What looked like unrelated events begins to reveal something bigger. The right people were positioned in the right places, seemingly forgotten faithfulness resurfaced at the right moment, and circumstances no one could have orchestrated began working together.

Maybe that is why Esther speaks so powerfully to seasons when God feels quiet. We rarely get to see the whole story while we are living it. We see the waiting. The unanswered prayer. The unexpected season. The small act of obedience that seems to change nothing. We wonder where God is and whether anything is actually moving. Esther reminds us that our limited view does not limit God’s activity.

We do not have to understand everything God is doing to remain faithful with what He has placed in front of us. Sometimes faithfulness means speaking. Sometimes it means waiting. Sometimes it means saying yes without knowing what comes next. And sometimes, it simply means trusting that the chapter we can see is not the whole story. If God feels quiet today, keep looking. Keep trusting. Keep showing up. Even in the quiet, God is still writing your story.
