Make Room

Scripture

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Matthew 6:33 NIV

Giving God Our First 15 Minutes: why first? Life can get busy quickly. The moment we wake up, distractions can begin; our phones are filled with texts to answer, emails to read, and lists of things waiting for our attention. What if, instead of reaching for our phone first, we reached for God? It may seem like a small change, but those first few moments can help set the tone for our entire day. Rather than giving God what is left after everything else has our attention, we can intentionally give Him our first 15 minutes.

Matthew 6:33 reminds us: “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Putting God first is not about earning His love or trying to be perfect. It is about creating space to seek Him, hear His direction, and trust Him with our day.

What does putting God first look like? Heart posture: Choosing to love and value God above money, status, comfort, or anything else. Daily devotion: Inviting God into our decisions and asking Him to guide our plans and priorities. Obedience: Offering Him our best—not simply what is left over and trusting that He will provide what we need.

No matter where you are in your walk with Christ, developing a daily rhythm with Him can be a beautiful place to begin. Starting when we first wake up allows us to surrender our own agenda and invite God to lead the day. The first 15 minutes: (5 minutes) Pray: Talk with God and surrender your day to Him. (5 minutes) Read His Word: Allow Scripture to speak truth and direction into your life. (5 minutes) Worship & Gratitude: Thank Him for who He is and for the blessings already present in your life. Give yourself grace as you build this habit. Some days may feel easier than others. Over time, these moments can become something you look forward to—moments of peace, wisdom, worship, and connection with God. And perhaps, as you begin with 15 minutes, you may find yourself wanting more.

Prayer: God, thank You for giving us the desire to place You first. Help us make room for You each morning. Remove distractions, doubts, and anything that keeps us from seeking You. Give us the strength and courage to surrender our day to Your will and trust You with every step. Thank You for the fruit You will produce in our lives as we draw closer to You. Amen.
