Seen by God

What intrigues me most about Leah’s story is the irony of it all. Jacob couldn’t see her value. She lived with the pain of loving a man whose heart belonged to someone else. Day after day, she longed to be seen, chosen, and loved. But while Jacob overlooked Leah, God never did. Genesis 29:31 tells us, “When the Lord saw that Leah was not loved…”

Before God changed anything in her circumstances, He saw her heart. He saw her tears, her loneliness, and her longing. As I reflect on Leah’s story, I’m reminded that people don’t determine our purpose; God does. We can spend so much of our lives trying to earn someone’s approval that we forget we already have the love of a heavenly Father who sees us completely. Here’s what amazes me most: the woman Jacob couldn’t fully love became the woman God chose to carry the family line of Jesus Christ.

Through Leah’s son Judah came the promised Messiah. The woman who felt unseen became part of the greatest story ever told. What Jacob failed to recognize, God had already ordained. Maybe today you feel overlooked at work, in your family, at school, or even in church. Don’t let someone’s inability to see your worth make you question the value God has already placed on your life. People may overlook you, but God never will. Their opinion cannot cancel His purpose.

Reflection: Am I seeking approval from people more than resting in God’s love? Where have I allowed rejection to shape my identity? How does Leah’s story encourage me to trust God’s purpose for my life?

Prayer: Father, thank You for seeing me when I feel unseen. Help me stop measuring my worth by others’ approval and to rest in the truth that I am fully known and deeply loved by You. Strengthen my faith to trust that Your purpose is greater than any rejection I may experience. Use my life for Your glory, just as You used Leah’s. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
