Waiting on the Sun

Are you waiting on a job or career path, a godly relationship, a family member to come to Jesus, or a healing in your mind, body, or relationship? It could be anything you’re praying for that is taking more than a week. The wait is difficult when you really want it. I love going to the book of Psalm because there are so many emotions that are expressed in this book of the Bible.

Last night, my friend sent me a verse of Psalm 84. It encouraged me, and then I read the whole chapter for context. This stuck out to me: “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless. Lord Almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in you” (Psalm 84:11-12 NASB).

I am in a several-year waiting period for a loved one, and I’ve prayed for reconciliation. I’m in a waiting period for finding my job for the upcoming school year. I’m waiting for a change in my living arrangement that causes much stress for everyone involved. But God is my sun and my shield. Therefore, He is the light we need to see the next step ahead and the defense we need when stress, comparison, and anxiety come at us.

We need both for those days that seem very dark and bleak, when we have no idea how the situation will turn out. The Lord gives us favor and honor when we are walking closely with Him. He doesn’t hold back good things. If we think we need it, maybe we have to wait some more. It’s not the right time yet. Or maybe God has something different in mind in how He accomplishes it. This is why we are blessed: not trusting ourselves or people who run companies, but trusting in God, who knows what we need when we need it. He is more than able to give when He sees fit for our good and His glory.

Prayer: Lord, I am struggling to believe this wait is good for me. It feels like a weight on me. Please remind me of your faithfulness. You don’t withhold good things from me. You love me more than I can imagine. I want to be near you and hear you. I desire what you have for me when the time comes. Give me strength and comfort as I trust you more than I did yesterday. In your mighty name, Amen.
