Your Feet Were Made For This

Written by Phyllis J · Plano Campus

Scripture

It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; He causes me to stand on the heights.

Psalm 18:32-33 NIV

December 20, 2019, my life changed when I was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm. Suddenly, I found myself walking through terrain I had never traveled before. There were plenty of reasons to be afraid, but I made a decision: I would not live in fear. I would trust God.

I love the picture David gives us of a deer. A deer has an amazing ability to keep its footing, even on steep, rocky, and uncertain terrain. Notice that David doesn’t say God removes the difficult terrain. He says God gives him feet to walk through it. That’s what God did for me. Living with a brain aneurysm could have me spend my days wondering, What if? Instead, I’ve chosen to trust God, who gives you and me strength for our journey.

Here’s something fascinating about a deer: glands between its toes release a scent as it walks, leaving a message other deer can detect. What if our footsteps do the same? As we walk through difficult places trusting God, we leave something behind for those coming after us. Our testimony says, “God was faithful here. You can trust Him here, too.”

If you are walking through a fearful or uncertain situation, where is God asking you to choose trust over fear? What message are your footsteps leaving for those coming behind you?

Prayer: Faithful Father, thank You for helping me walk through difficult situations. May I learn to trust You while leaving a trail of faith for someone else. Amen
