The Perfect Storm

Written by Jeremy J · Plano Campus

Scripture

And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still.” And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm. And He said to them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They became very much afraid and said to one another, “Who, then, is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?”

Mark 4:39-41 NASB

There are 3 types of people: those that are going into a storm, those that are currently in a storm, and those that are coming out of a storm. These 3 people may have a different perspective depending on the season they are currently in. What remains constant is that our Lord and Savior is in the eye of the storm, waiting to see what posture we take. We can be like the disciples in Mark who questioned the Lord about their current condition; or we can rest in the Lord’s promise that He won’t leave or forsake us. This posture could determine the length of time we’re in the storm or the severity of the damage we suffer. Instead of asking God “Why,” we need to ask God “What.” “Lord, what are you trying to build in me?” “Lord, what is this current situation revealing about myself?”

Questions to ask yourself:

  1. Am I currently going into a storm, in a storm, or coming out of a storm
  2. Who do I have in my community that can help me walk through my current situation?
  3. If I’m coming out of a storm, who can I share my story with to encourage them?

Prayer: Dear God, please allow me to dwell in your presence no matter my circumstances. I know you hold all the answers. Give me peace in the storm, and give me the strength to persevere and fight through this storm until the end. Amen
