Be Anxious for Nothing
Written by Valerine C • Lewisville Campus
Scripture
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and pleading with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 NASB
There are so many distractions in this world and so much to worry about, but what if we prayed instead? Paul reminds us in Philippians that instead of worrying, we should be praying about everything. We have become accustomed to using technology and devices that let us monitor and check up on our loved ones all the time. Apps like Life 360 or home cameras, etc.
When and how did we become so worried about the whereabouts of our loved ones? I was raised in a time when, if your parents allowed you to drive, there was no checking up on your location or even calling to see if you’ve made it to your destination. I was always advised to carry a quarter so that if there was an emergency, I could use a pay phone to call home. At that time, the norm was to simply trust that we made it to our destination safe and sound. What I’m realizing is that access to more technology and devices doesn’t do anything to relieve our worry and concern. The only one who can truly give us peace is God. We’ve already been given the prescription for relieving worry: prayer and thanksgiving.
Prayer: Dear Lord, we thank you for your protection. Thank you that You have kept us from dangers seen and unseen. You have always been faithful to us and have never let us down. Thank You for being a good
shepherd and Father. Whenever we forget and become anxious and worried, remind us to bring our concerns to You and thank You in advance for all that You are doing. Amen.
