God’s Love

3 The Lord your God himself will cross over ahead of you. He will destroy these nations before you, and you will take possession of their land. Joshua also will cross over ahead of you, as the Lord said. 4 And the Lord will do to them what he did to Sihon and Og, the kings of the Amorites, whom he destroyed along with their land. 5 The Lord will deliver them to you, and you must do to them all that I have commanded you. 6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
7 Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the Lord swore to their ancestors to give them, and you must divide it among them as their inheritance. 8 The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
Deuteronomy 31:3-8 NIV
“It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Two years ago, I decided to rededicate my life back to Christ. At the time, I was the only one in my family who made this choice. I didn’t know what it meant to allow God full control of my life. When I began my walk with Christ, I had a hard time letting go of the reins and letting God in. I was always worried and scared of meeting new people or talking because of what others would think of me. The fear of rejection and the unknown held me back from fully surrendering and taking risky steps.
However, one day while I was working, I clearly heard God say, “I love you.” Right then, I knew that I had no reason to fear because God is always with me. God has not and would not leave me hanging to figure out life alone. Moses was 120 years old when he passed the leadership role over to Joshua. Moses had already experienced how the people feared moving forward, and he worried often about the people. Moses understood that Joshua would have some of the same fears and worries, but he reassured him that God would be there and wouldn’t leave him. He told Joshua to be strong and courageous because God was going before them to destroy some of the other nations and have control over others.
Remember that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He won’t leave His children, so we do not have to fear about tomorrow or the future. When we feel fear or worry starting to take over our minds, we need to give it all to God. He promised He would take care of His sheep because He is the Good Shepard. Psalm 121:7-8 (ESV) says, “The Lord will keep you from all evil; He will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.” The next time we feel scared, worried, or even alone, we should pray.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, Your Word says that we should not fear or worry because You would never leave me nor forsake me. Wrap Your arms around me, give me courage, and help me let go of worry, stress, and anxiety. Thank you, Lord, for all You’ve done and for all You have planned. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
